Fungal Infections & Wart Remedies
Fungal Infections are very common, namely athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm and thrush. Fungal spores thrive in a closed, warm, moist environment and feed on keratin, a protein that is found in skin, hair and nails. Athlete's Foot appears as red, itchy, scaly skin in and around the toes and the sole of the foot. The skin peels and can blister or flake off. Lamisil and Lamisil Once are products we regularly recommend to kill the fungus. If you have athlete's foot cover the feet when walking around, wash them regularly and dry thoroughly. 'Socks before Jocks' is a sensible rule of thumb to avoid spreading the infection from your feet to your groin.
Ringworm causes a red ring of scaly skin to form and grown outwards. It is contagious and can be passed easily especially in children. Scalp ringworm passes by sharing hats, brushes and hairclips. Ringworm on the body passes by sharing towels and clothes. Cats and dogs are also culprits, they bring it into the house and pass it on by touch, their bedding, lying on carpets or upholstery. Daktarin cream is recommended often for ringworm.
Candidiasis, most commonly affects the mouth, the genitals and skin usually in the form of nappy rash in babies. Tight underwear and tight clothing aswell as nappies in babies provide the perfect breathing ground for the fungi. Some medicines and medical conditions can also make you more susceptible. Oral Thrush, presents as white spots or blisters in the mouth and on the tongue. It is common in babies, the elderly, cancer patients or those taking antibiotics or steroid inhalers. Daktarin Oral gel is suitable for most people. Vaginal Thrush causes itching, redness, white cheesy discharge and extreme discomfort. It can be passed during intercourse and so is important that both partners are treated at the same time. In males, it presents as a red, itchy rash, with itching or burning at the tip of the penis. Canesten 1% or 2 % cream can be used for both, and women can also treat internal symptoms with a Canesten Pessary.
